Khwaja Chishti, a direct descendant of Ali, was the son-in-law of Prophet Mohammad. His compassion for the poor of caste and creed earned him the epithet of Garib Nawaz. More than three centuries later Mughal Emperor, Akbar made a pilgrimage to the tomb bare footed. He went there to pray for a son. His pilgrimage from Agra to Ajmer was proved successful as he was blessed with a son, Salim. After this Akbar began visiting this place regularly.

Though today, it does not find place in the regular tourist guides of India, Ossian boasts of more than 100 Hindu and Jain temples dating back to the Medieval Age. According to some legend, Utpaladeva, a Rajput Prince of the Pratihara Dynasty founded this town. Then it was known as Ukesha or Upkeshapur. Ossian boasts the earliest of all medieval temples of Rajasthan. The earlier temples are like miniature shrines. Some temples are only eight feet in height. These are intricately carved red sandstone edifices. These are dedicated to Harihara or the union of Vishnu and Shiva. Even foreign scholars consider these as the architectural masterpieces for the carved raising plinths, pillars and the spires.

Eklingji Temple is positioned at a distance of 22 km in the north of Udaipur, on the national highway no. 8. Eklingnath Temple is dedicated to the Lord Shiva of the Hindu religion. Initially, the temple was built in 734 A.D. by Bappa Rawal. Since that time, Eklingji has been the ruling deity of Mewar rulers. In the later years, it was repaired and modified by various Kings, to clean the remnants of obliterationmade by the attacks of Mohammedans.

The simplicity in architecture verily reminds one that Jainism as a religion "encouraged honesty and frugality". The temples reside amidst mesmerizing surroundings of mango trees and wooded hills. A high wall, shimmering luminous in the sunlight, shrouds the temple complex.

hawa-mahal-jaipur Ranakpur in the state of Rajasthan is one of the five most important pilgrimage sites of Jainism. It is home to an exceptionally beautiful temple complex in the Aravali ranges and a must visit for the tourists coming to this region. The Ranakpur Jain Temple was built during the reign of the liberal and gifted Rajput monarch Rana Kumbha in the 15th century. The basement is of 48,000 sq. feet area that covers the whole complex. There are four subsidiary shrines, twenty-four pillared halls and domes supported by over four hundred columns. The total number of columns is 1,444 all of which are intricately carved with no two being alike. The artistically carved nymphs playing the flute in various dance postures at a height of 45 feet are an interesting sight.
