Rajasthan 'The Land Of Colors" . In this land Music and Dance are deeply ingrained in the life of Rajasthanis. Rajasthan is famous for its tradition dance and folk music. Rajasthani dance are spectacular celebration of life and color and it shows the happiness of their people. After hard work in the harsh desert  sun and rocky terrain whenever they take time off they let themselves go in gay abandon. Each region has its own folk entertainment, the dance styles differ as they do the songs, even the musical instruments are also different. The Ghoomar Dance from Udaipur, Kaibeliya dance of Jaisalmer have international recognition. Folk music is a vital part of Rajasthan culture.

Folk Music and Dance :-

Ghoomar danceGhoomar Dance :- 

The Dance is performed during special occasions. This is basically a community dance for women and performed on. The dancers in a ring or circle starting with slow music, the tempo increasing gradually. this is very simple dance where the ladies move gently. The most famous dance of Rajasthan.

Kachhi Ghodi :-

One of the interesting dance performed on dummy horses. Men in elaborate costumes ride the equally well decorated dummy horses. Holding naked swords, these dancers move rhythmically to the beating of drums and fife. A singer narrates the exploits of the Bavaria bandits of Shekhawati.

Fire Dance :-

A large ground is prepared with live wood and charcoal where the Jasnathi men and boys jumps on to the fire to the accompaniment. of drum beats. the music gradually rises in tempo and reaches a crescendo, the dancers seem to be in a trance like state

Drum Dance :-

This is a professional dance-form from Jalore. Five men with huge drums round their necks, some with huge cymbals accompany a dancer who holds a naked sword in his mouth and performs vigorously by twirling three painted sticks.Gangaur Festival

Gangaur :-

This dance is performed by young girls and married ladies in the month of March. The performers pray to Goddess Parvati while dancing. The performers dress up in beautiful clothes and jewelry carrying brass pots filled with green grass, leaves and flowers on their heads.

Dandiya :-

This dance is performed during Holi, a colourful spring festival. Men and women performed separately or together, holding short wodden stricks in both the hands. The dance begins with a slow tempo of stick beats and speeds up gradually.

Maand :-

Rajasthan’s most sophisticated style of folk music and has come a long way from the time it was only sung in royal courts, in praise of the Rajput rulers.

Puppet showKathputli (Puppet Show) :-

Puppet plays based on popular legends are performed by skilled puppeteers. Displaying his skill in making the puppets’ act and dance, the puppeteer is accompanied by a woman, usually his wife, who plays the dholak, or drum and sings the ballad.

Musical Instrument :-Rajasthani man with his musical instruments

The haunting melody of Rajasthan evokes from a variety of delightfully primitive looking instruments. The stringed variety include the Sarangi,  Rawanhattha, Kamayacha, Morchang and Ektara. Percussion instruments come in all shapes and sizes from the huge Nagaras and Dhols to the tiny Damrus. The Daf and Chang are a big favourite of the Holi (the festival of colours) revellers. Flutes and bagpipers come in local flavours such as Shehnai, Poongi, Algoza, Tarpi, Been and Bankia.
