Religion has always played a very important role in the lives of Indian people from the ancient times. The royal indian state of Rajasthan, promises to be an experience of a lifetime with its wealth of culture and tradition. Hindusim is the most common religion. There are many Jains who follow the teachings of Lord Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara who stressed the practice of non-violence. There has been an increase in the number of followers of Sikhism. Some other major religions that are followed are Buddhism, Islam, Christianity and the Parsi faith. The principal language of the state is Rajasthani, comprising a group of Indo-Aryan dialects. the four chief dialects are Marwari in western rajasthan, Jaipuri in the east and central regions, Malvi in the southeast and southern and mewari in northeastern bharatpur district. Hindi is the official state language is being used more than Rajasthani and in towns and cities. English is also commonly spoken.

Rajasthan's cultur    e comes from its two main tribes-Bhils and Minas. The Bhils form an important group in the southern part of the state. The Minas are Rajasthan's largest and most widely spread tribal group. In the north, they inhabit the sikar belt and in the southwest, the Mina settlement mix with the Bhels. Above all the Rajputs form an important section of the population.

Everywhere in Rajasthan the ' tie-and-dye' sari for women and turban for men comntinue to be popular. Traditional dresses worn by Hindu men include dhoti, banda, angrakhi, khol and dhabla. Women wear saris, ghagra/lehenga and choli with an odhani, dupatta or patka. Muslim women wear burkhas and men wear achkans.

Cuisine of Rajasthan

Rajasthan CuisineThere is scarcity of rainfall in Rajasthan, which is not conducive for the growth of vegetables, has resulted in increased stress on the cultivation of, pulses especially moong, moth and gram. Most Rajasthani cuisine uses pure ghee (clarified butter) as its medium of cooking. A favorite dish is prepared with broken wheat (dalia) sautéed in ghee and sweetened. Bikaner ki Bhujia is a savory that is world famous and unlike in other parts of India is prepared out of a pulse called moth (a type of lentil). Similarly a sweet made from pumpkin is a Bikaner specialty affectionately named as petha. The list is endless, the palate insatiable.
