Lohagarh fort, an iron
structure built in the 18th century. the fort was construct by Maharaja
Suraj Mal, the founder of Bharatpur. The fort has three palaces within its
precints, Kishori Mahal, Mahal Khas and Kothi Khas.

Jawahar Burj and Fateh Burj
are the famous towers still stand erect within the glorious ramparts of
the fort. These were built by Maharaja Suraj Mal to commemorate his
victories over the Mughals and British respectively.

The Bharatpur Museum houses a rich collection
of archaeological wealth of the nearby areas as well as from the old
Bharatpur. The Art Gallery of the museum has specimens of miniature
paintings on leaves of the peepal tree, mica and old lithopapers alongwith
the paintings of the Maharajas of Bharatpur. It exhibits sculptures found
during the archaeology of old villages e.g. Noh, Mallah, Bareh, Bayana
etc. ranging from the Kushan period (Ist century AD) to 19th century AD.
Weapons used in battles in the medieval period by the Jat rulers,
paintings, manuscripts, zoological specimens, local art and craft that was
once Bharatpur.

This royal edifice is a fusion
of the Mughal and Rajput architectural styles with magnificent apartments
and intricately designed floor tiles having interesting patterns. One can
marvel at the ancient exhibits displayed in the museum in the central pan
of the palace.

Bharatpur Wildlife Sanctuary

Bharatpur
National Park spread over an little area of little over 232 sq km. Kaleod
drives its name from shiva Temple in tyhe haert of sanctuary. Formerly known
as the bharatpur Wildlife Sanctuary. Perhaps no other wildlife sanctuary in
India offers the range of accommodation as in Bharatpur. There are rest
houses, lodges, dormitories and hotels. Rajasthan Tourism provides good
accommodation at its hotel, 'Saras'. Inside the park, the Bharatpur Forest
Lodge is maintained by the ITDC. Shanti Kuteer, Circuit House, Dak Bungalow
are also good for a comfortable stay. Park Palace, Govind Niwas and the
Tourist complex are the other choices. Almost all the houses around the park
lend out one or two rooms to visitors. These are cheap and provide
comfortable stay.
